Man On Top Positions
Thanks to popular mythology
planting the belief that the man-on-top position is the
only normal and acceptable way to have sex, the missionary
position has become the most popular sexual position.
This myth was propagated by 19th century
Christian missionaries who believed that the man-on-top
was the only natural and proper position for intercourse.
The missionary position is also popular because it is comfortable,
affords a great deal of body contact and good depth of penetration.
It also allows lovers to kiss and hold each other tight.
The woman is also able to easily caress
her clitoris but the man is somewhat limited in the way
that he can use his hands to caress his partner. The clitoris
is also able to receive direct stimulation by the shaft
of the penis which is very important because some women
can only reach orgasm by simultaneous vaginal and clitoral
stimulation.
In this position, the woman lies on
her back with her legs spread and her knees raised, or with
her legs wrapped around the man's hips or back, or placed
up over his shoulders. (The further up her legs are the
deeper the penetration the man can make as he thrusts.)
The man then lies flat on the woman
if his weight is comfortable for her, or he can support
some or all of his weight on his elbows, hands or knees.
Some women discover that if the man does not support his
own weight, then their pelvic movements are restricted.
Either the man or the woman then guides the penis into the
vagina.
